Advocacy Struggles

There are many barriers that need to be overcome so that higher education can have the desired effect within Education in Emergencies.  Children who face life altering circumstances may not have the documentation necessary to prove their previous academic achievement and may have missed years of schooling due to a multitude of circumstances outside of their control.    Displaced children who are forced to change schools may face a linguistic barrier, where the curriculum that is available to them is taught in a language that they do not understand.   There is also a huge financial burden on individuals attempting to attend higher education, therefore those who attend require some form of a scholarship assistance(Halkic & Arnold, 2019).  This scholarship program creates inequality of opportunity, as the scholarship program can not be extended to everyone for financial reasons. Women are disproportionately affected by men in the lack of education crisis, as they are shown to be less than half as likely to attend secondary school(Halkic & Arnold, 2019), therefore limiting access to tertiary education.  Due to the lack of funding available to refugee's as a whole, tertiary education is not prioritized by the international humanitarian committees.  However, Tertiary education is a human right that has been shown to greatly improve the lives of the people who have it.
