Advocacy Goal 2
Reach out to private donors to help with the funding of community based programs in Kakuma that can support tertiary education.
In November 2020, the Refugee led inZone team opened up a new learning facility, that is completely overseen and run by the refugees themselves. They have implemented two new courses, enacted covid-19 protocol to prioritize the students health while still maintaining access to higher education, and written academic articles that will be published in the education in emergencies journal. Refugees have also done their own on site evaluation of what their tertiary education needs are, which was submitted to the University of Geneva in 2021(O'Keefe, 2021). When given the opportunity, refugees have the ability to not be passive recipients, but instead take the charge in the future of their education. This advocacy goal will look to improve the resources going directly to the refugees of the camp, so that they can not be passive recipients of their tertiary education.
