Yelizaveta Alekseyevna Tarakanova (1745-1775) was a well-known impersonator who attempted to lay claim to the Russian throne by positioning herself as the daughter of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna (1709-1762) and Count Aleksey G. Razumovsky. She was lured to St. Petersburg by the prospect of marriage with Aleksey Grigoryevich Orlov, a close supporter of the Empress Catherine II (1729-1796). Upon her arrival to St. Petersburg, Tarakanova was sent to prison where she later died.
