Institution in the USSR devoted to freezing people (like Innokenty) and bringing them back into another era. There is reference to their persecution by Joseph Stalin, leading to their capture in an island prison camp within Russia which is known as Solovki.
pg. 199 — Sekirka
A vastly lush hill with a lighthouse and church duo stand within the Solovki prison camp. This was a place of special significance in terms of punishment to the prisoners. Here, there was very graphic torture done, however there was a lush landscape of nature. With this duality of pain and nature, the prisoner's brutal reality with the gulag is tied back to this nature-human relationship.

Former railway station in Saint Petersburg. Situated just shy of the city's center, this station was a large cultural and social hub for Saint Petersburg. Originally created as a direct railway from the Tsar's residence to Saint Petersburg.

The first museum established in Russia. Created by Peter the Great in 1727, the Kunstkamera holds about 2,000,000 items relating to anthropology and ethnography.

German philosopher, economist, sociologist, and Socialist revolutionary. Most famous works include The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital.
pg. 222 — samovar
A type of metal container used to boil water. This style of container is a very traditionally Russian concept. Due to its iconic nature within Russian culture, the samovar has traveled throughout all of Eastern Europe, and is now coming into cultural normativity within other European regions.
