  A samovar is a device traditionally used to heat and boil water for tea. The word samovar in Russian is derived from "сам" meaning self and "варить" meaning to boil, in English it is "self-boiler."

  Chal, or shubat, is a Turkic beverage of fermented camel milk, sparkling white with a sour flavor, popular in Central Asia, particularly in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were both satellite states in Russia where the citizens underwent a process of forced Russification under Soviet Rule.

  Radio Mayak is a radio broadcasting company in Russia, owned by VGTRK. Mayak is the Russian word for "lighthouse" or "beacon".

  The people at the Cosmodrome who help run and control issues between humans. 

  pg. 46 — biocurrents
  Sabitzhan tells Yedigei and the others at the wake about biocurrents that will let some type of higher ups control the minds of most of the Soviet population, perhaps all of earth's population. This control is to serve the purpose of creating a peaceful and optimal civilization; it will decide who marries whom, who does what as a career, and so forth. These biocurrents are one of the motifs the author deploys. Can we have a society that is peaceful by choice, or must we lose our choice and freedom for that to be realistic?

  A legend invented by Aitmatov about a tribe that moves into the fruitful land of the Sarozek and captures other members of groups and turns them into slaves.

  The Aral Sea is an endorheic lake lying between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan that began shrinking in the 1960s and had largely dried up by the 2010s. It was drained as a result of using its water for industrialization. The Aral' Sea was a sacred home to both Kazangap and Yedigei when they both

  Aral, also known as Aralsk or Aral'sk, is a small city in south-western Kazakhstan, located in the oblast of Kyzylorda. It serves as the administrative center of Aral District. Aral was formerly a fishing port and harbour city on the banks of the Aral Sea, and was a major supplier of fish to the neighboring region.

  pg. 51 — Parity Orbital Station
  This space station is the first point of contact the human race had with extraterrestrial beings. Cosmonaut 1-2 and Cosmonaut 2-1 both communicate with these beings and leave to go explore their world. The Parity Orbital Station's was to serve as a base point between Planet Ex and Earth.

  pg. 51 — Demiurgos
  The planeteological program named after Plato's creator of the Universe. This program's goal was to find a planet and traverse between it and earth to bring its resources to Earth. However, It was put on hold when the Cosmonauts on the Parity met extraterrestrials.

  Most of the Aleutian Islands belong to the U.S. state of Alaska, but some belong to Russia. The Aleutian Islands are just north of the base station between Vladivostok and San Fransisco. 

  pg. 51 — Vladivostok
  Vladivostok is a major Pacific port city in Russia overlooking Golden Horn Bay, near the borders with China and North Korea. It is one of the key points that the space station is positioned between.

  Planet Ex is a planet with immense mineral deposits that would be incredibly useful for earth to use.
