The US Treasury imposed sanctions on Ukrainian politician Andrii Derkach for his involvement in helping Donald Trump find "dirt" on Joe Biden. As the ultimate goal was to implicate Biden in a corruption scandal, the meetings between Derkach and Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani were criticized by many as "anti-democratic." Derkach also has strong ties to Russian intelligence, and is often accused of working to undermine the legitimacy of the 2020 US election, usually in favor of Trump.
